Direct-to-camera videos are an engaging alternative to text-based job descriptions.

The feature
The UK division of Netherlands-based recruiting giant Randstad is using Instagram to advertise some job vacancies directly to candidates on the platform.
Recruitment consultants post a short video introducing and explaining the vacancy, and invite users to apply via an email address included in the caption.
For example, in August, a Randstad recruiter posted a short video with the key responsibilities and skills required, and inviting those interested to get in touch.
Instagram has emerged as a key platform for engaging with corporate jobseekers over recent years, primarily as a way of promoting the company and its culture to prospective employees. This is the most direct approach to harnessing the channel for front-line recruiting that we have seen.
Some candidates are likely to find the conversational style of these short videos refreshing and will be encouraged to apply. The approach also signals that Randstad is not afraid to try new ways of doing things and is innovative in its industry.
For other companies, the approach has potential, for targeted campaigns, or as a complement to conventional text-based corporate job descriptions. Signposting the relevant vacancy in the main job search tool from linktr.ee via a ‘link in bio’ prompt, or directly from Stories, would streamline the process for corporate recruiters who may be reluctant to rely on an email.
