Daimler : Governance and moustaches

Tongue-in-cheek video shows lighter side of a German carmaker

The feature

The biography page for Daimler boss Dieter Zetsche – located in the corporate governance section of Daimler’s corporate website – has a video at the bottom introducing the company’s sustainability report.

The 2-minute embedded YouTube video features Mr Zetsche, who has a distinctive white moustache, conversing with a child playing his younger self (and with a fake moustache), about how car technology has advanced in the last 50 years. The video started life on the home page of the latest sustainability report microsite, where it still sits.

The takeaway

It is not often you get a joke in the corporate governance section, but the embedded video is fun because it takes the mickey out of Zetsche’s moustache.

The video was probably expensive, so it makes sense to use it in different places on the site. Including it on the biography page lightens a section that can often come across as dry and uninteresting; however, more conventional (and potentially useful) links, to speeches for example, are missing.
